Am I qualified?
Our education assistants are grade 12 graduates plus have an education certification or equivalent education (see link to education assistant accepted qualifications - right side on this page).
What do EAs do? Education assistants provide social, emotional, personal, and academic support for students (click here for our EA job description). Calmness, empathy and compassion are essential. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to student needs is crucial.  
What is the pay? $24.19 to $26.38 per hour
What are the hours? Most positions are 5.5 hours per day on days when school is in session
Are there benefits? After a successful 65 day probation period in a regular (not temporary or casual) position, there is a competitive benefit package (click here for details).
Are EAs in a union?
EAs are members of the CUPE Local 523 (click here to view the CUPE 523 Collective Agreement)
What do relief EAs do? Work is on-call in various schools, replacing absent EAs or filling vacant positions
How often do relief EAs work? Although there are no guarantees, relief EAs are usually offered shifts daily  
How are relief EAs dispatched?
Most calls are at 6:00 AM the day of the shift; however, our automated dispatch system can call up to 3 weeks in advance, allowing relief EAs the opportunity to plan ahead
Would I have to accept every shift offered?
EAs are welcome to maintain a flexible schedule that fits in with their family life or other commitments

Is there a test?
There is a literacy and numeracy assessment which becomes part of your application package. Also, if you are exploring the opportunity, you are welcome to request to complete an assessment to determine your literacy and numeracy skills.
