Am I qualified?
 
Grade 12 graduation plus additional courses as described in our job descriptions, and  administrative support experience in an office setting is required (click here to view job descriptions). Qualifications vary depending on position. 
 
What do school secretaries do? 
 
School Secretaries provide support for the effective and efficient operation of the school business
 
What is the pay? 
 
Pay range is $23.55 to $30.41 per hour
 
What are the hours? 
 
Hours range from 4 to 7 hours per day 
 
Are there benefits?
 
After a successful 65 day probation period in a regular position, there is a competitive benefit package (click here for details). There are no benefits with temporary or casual work.
 
Are secretaries in a union? 
 
School Secretaries are members of CUPE Local 523 (click here to view the CUPE 523 Collective Agreement)
 
How are relief secretaries dispatched? 
 
Calls can be at 6:00 am the day of the shift; however, our automated dispatch system can call up to 3 weeks in advance, allowing relief staff the opportunity to plan ahead. 
 
Would I have to accept every shift offered?  
 
Relief secretaries are welcome to maintain a flexible schedule that fits in with their family life or other commitments.

Is there a test?
 
Assessments include Excel (basic formulas), keyboarding (55 WPM), writing (3-4 paragraphs in Word), reading comprehension (read and answer multiple choice questions) and for some positions, bookkeeping. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete our assessments.
