Superintendent's Message

Superintendent Bev Young

Bev Young has been the Superintendent of Schools for School District No. 53 (Okanagan-Similkameen) since 2011.  She has taught elementary, middle, and secondary grades and been a principal of both elementary and secondary schools.  Before being appointed Superintendent for the Okanagan-Similkameen school district, Bev was Superintendent of Schools in the Bulkley Valley.  Bev has a wealth of experience in school and district administration, teaching and learning, and the needs of education in rural settings.

Bev is committed to building team with all employees and partners and envisions our school district to be a welcoming, inclusive settings for all students and staff, responding with compassion and nimbleness to the ever-changing needs and interests of our students.

It is with deep gratitude that we begin the 2021-22 school year ‘near normal’ with the focus on in-person learning and the return of extra-curricular activities and mixed learning groups thanks to vaccines.  Our staff – all of them – have done a phenomenal job of keeping our schools open and safe during a global pandemic.  The health and safety of students, staff, and families continues to be our top priority as we asses and address the impacts of the pandemic on student learning and wellbeing.

It is going to be an amazing year!  Let’s get started!
