Quick Reference Guide
INSTALLING FIRSTCLASS CLIENT FOR USE
ON A HOME COMPUTER
Download the client software
NOTE: This is only required for HOME users. If you are
accessing First Class from within SD53, the First Class
client should already be installed. If it is not installed,
please contact a technician.
- Click on the First Class
- Click on Windows Client or Mac or Linux 
- Click the Save button and save the
FC8090US.exe (or newer version) to
the Desktop or My Documents
- Find the file you just downloaded and
double click on the icon. If you get a
message that the “Publisher could
not be verified”, click the Run button.
If you are not using Windows XP you
may not see this message and just
continue with the install.
- Take all of the default options during
the install. If asked for your
Name and Company, just enter your
name and SD53 for the company.
- Once you have finished the install
you should see a First Class icon on
your Desktop (the installer file
FC8043US.exe can be deleted).
Double click on the new First Class
icon.
- You will see the First Class Login
screen. Click the Setup button.
- Enter your First Class user id in the
User ID field (usually first initial and
7 letters of last name).

- Do not modify any other fields.
- Click the Save button.
- You will be returned to the login box.
Just enter your newly assigned
password (usually 4 digits) and click
the Login button.
- You may see a Change Password box.
To secure your account, you must
change your password. Enter your
old password in the
Old Password field.
- Enter your new password in each
of the remaining fields. (minimum 5
characters of mixed numbers and letters)
(must contain at least 1 letter or number)
- Press the OK button.
NOTE: You can change your password at any
time by navigating to Collaborate ?? Change
Password from the menu bar.
You should now be able to connect using your
UserID and secure password from any computer
in SD53 configured for FirstClass access
NOTE: If you get a message that the server cannot be found either you missed the step where you entered
fc.sd53.bc.ca in the Server field or you are using a Firewall software such as Norton Internet Security. You
need to either allow First Class (fcc32.exe) to bypass the Firewall or open communications on Port 510.
