Lessons and Teaching Resources

Scrolling Billboard Script

This could be used on student sites for rolling credits or on a school site for announcements. It is very visible and will grab the browser's attention. Get the script here.

One To One Reading Booklet

The Stress Free Reading At Home parent handbook was developed to provide teachers with a tool to share advice and helpful hints with parents as they read at home with their children. It informs parents about what reading strategies are being taught in the classroom so they can guide their children in a supportive and positive manner.

Developed by the Vernon and District Children's Literacy Society, with advice from two Resource Teachers, the handbook was meant to support families with children in the Society's ONE TO ONE Children's Literacy Program. However, as handbooks were passed from teacher to teacher, demand grew. To raise funds for our literacy programs, we sell copies of the blackline master so schools can create and distribute the handbooks as needed. Here are some examples. Cost: $30, Contact: Society President, Debbie Schiller - debschiller@shaw.ca

Reader's Comments and Questions

I am very pleased that Vancouver SD is now part of CUE.  We have representatives from Surrey, Coquitlam and now Vancouver.  This means that we represent the three largest districts.  Any support that we can provide to Vancouver CUE or any other district will greatly benefit our organization.

...Leave With Laughter...

A man absolutely hated his wife's cat and decided to get rid of it one day by driving it 20 blocks from hishome and leaving it at the park. As he was getting home,
the cat was walking up the driveway.

The next day he decided to drive the cat 40 blocks away. He put the beast out and headed home. Driving back up his driveway, there was the cat!

He kept taking the cat further and further and the cat would always beat him home.

At last he decided to drive a few miles away, turn right, then left, past the bridge, then right again and another right until he reached what he thought was a safe
distance from his home and left the cat there.

Hours later the man calls home to his wife: 'Jen, is the cat there?'

'Yes', the wife answers, 'why do you ask?'

Frustrated, the man answered, 'Put that son of a cat on the phone, I'm lost and need directions!'

Purpose of TechTalk

I'm sure that we are all on listserves that cater to our specific professional interests already. TechTalk is not intended to be a replacement. The purpose of TechTalk is to distribute ideas, innovations, announcements, and questions to the global educational community that transcends the restricted audiences found on traditional listserves. The anticipated benefits are that we will gain greater insight and appreciation for the elementary - secondary - university - professional development - continuum of ICT education and forge new, synergistic networks between a cross section of educators.

TechTalk's layout is very plain - read that as boring...:-) BUT I wanted TechTalk to be a quick read and an even quicker download . I'm hoping that the readership will forgive the absence of 'eye candy' and appreciate the effort at providing content.

TechTalk is FREE. Please distribute to people within your own networks that might be interested. No spamming, please! The mailing list will not be distributed to any other organization.
